CREATING A RIBBON BAR
Creating a ribbon bar is easy, we know you’ll be surprised. But the most challenging
thing you need to do is actually think about what you want in the ribbon bar first.
We recommend jotting down the names and URL’s of the sites you wish to add before
you get started. Because of Microsoft Outlook security features, you will have to
restart Outlook to see your changes. So planning ahead is the best option.
1.Click on the WorkPlace for Outlook tab
2. Click the Edit & Share button to the right of the ribbon
3. Click the Edit Ribbon Bar menu item
4. Right-Click one of the existing ribbons and Insert a new Tab Set and give it
a name
5. This will create a new tab for you to begin the construction
of your ribbon bar.
6. Right-Click your new tab and insert a Group and give it a name, the group contains
your buttons
7. Right-click your new group and insert a button and give it a name and enter a
URL. This provides a
click through for that button.
8. Right-click your new button and insert a menu item and give it a name and enter
a URL. Do this if you wish to have multiple links under
a button.
9. When complete, click the Save button and restart Microsoft Outlook to see your
changes.
10. When the add-in is initially loaded, it doesn’t have the MOD specific Ribbon
bars which must be loaded.

DEPARTMENT WIDE RIBBON BAR
Linked ribbon bar provides the opportunity for you to share your ribbon bar with
others within your department or group. This allows everyone to share one ribbon
file so everyone is working from the same ribbon. When updates get added to the
ribbon file, you just upload that exported ribbon file to a central spot like a
SharePoint document library or a file server everyone has access too.
1. Export your ribbon file as noted above.
2. Move that < filename >.ribbon to any central location that everyone will have
access to. A SharePoint
document library is a good place and you can put security
on the file so no one changes the file. Also,
any HTTP or FILE server location will
work too.
3. Send out the link to that ribbon file for others to set up as a Linked Ribbon.
LINKING TO A RIBBON BAR
